Rules
To fly with Air Similan, pilots must agree to the airline's regulations regarding prerequisites and pilot responsibilities.
Admission Criteria
1.1 - The minimum age to join Air Similan is 16 years. Applications from candidates under 16 will be automatically rejected.
1.2.1 - As a French airline based in France, candidates must be fluent in French. French nationality, however, is not a requirement.
1.2.2 - Candidates must have a basic knowledge of aviation English (NATO phonetic alphabet, clearances, and simple phraseology) to operate international flights on IVAO/VATSIM networks. Advanced English proficiency is highly valued.
1.3 - Candidates must hold an active IVAO and/or VATSIM account. The account name must exactly match the name provided in the application. Any discrepancies must be explained in the 'Additional Information' section. The account must be active for at least six months and not suspended or inactive at the time of application.
1.4.1 - Candidates are expected to have sufficient knowledge of flight simulation and the aircraft they will operate with Air Similan.
1.4.2 - Insufficient proficiency with an aircraft may require additional training outside the airline or lead to revocation of the aircraft ratings.
1.4.3 - Candidates must own a suitable add-on for each aircraft they will fly with Air Similan. Examples include: Airbus A320 (FSLabs, Fenix, Aerosoft, Flight Factor); Boeing 737 (PMDG, Zibo); Boeing 777 (PMDG)...
Application Process
2.1 - All candidates must submit their application through the Air Similan website.
2.2.1 - The application process has two stages. First, candidates provide personal information, flight simulation experience, and specific details relevant to their application. Next, candidates take a theoretical entry exam in the form of a multiple-choice questionnaire covering flight simulation basics, controlled flight procedures, and Air Similan knowledge. We strongly recommend reviewing the airline's website thoroughly before taking the exam.
2.2.2 - The application process is not time-limited. Candidates can review and edit their responses freely. The application is considered final only after formal submission.
2.2.3 - Only one application per candidate is allowed. If a candidate wishes to reapply, they must wait at least three months after the initial submission.
2.2.4 - Candidates are expected to complete the entry exam honestly without external assistance. Any detection of identical answers among multiple candidates may result in rejection of the applications.
2.2.5 - All personal information provided must be accurate. Applications with inaccurate information will be automatically rejected.
2.3 - Upon admission, a pilot may obtain only one type rating: either on the Airbus A320 or Boeing 737. Candidates must specify which aircraft they wish to qualify for initially. This choice is final. Once recorded, it cannot be changed, and the pilot must complete a minimum number of flight hours on the selected aircraft before qualifying for another type.
2.4 - Candidates must indicate their preferred base — Paris (CDG and ORY) or Nice (NCE) — subject to availability. Base assignments are reviewed based on several factors, including the chosen aircraft rating and current demand at each base. If the preferred base is unavailable, the pilot may be placed on a waiting list. Rating choices take precedence over base preferences.
2.5 - The entry exam is passed with a minimum score of 75% correct answers.
2.6.1 - Successful candidates will be contacted via email within a few hours to a few days. They will receive access to Air Similan’s Pilot Intranet, which provides all operational features (flight booking, briefing, flight tracking, etc.). Pilots must complete their first rotation with the selected aircraft within two weeks. Failure to do so without prior notice will result in automatic suspension from the virtual airline.
2.6.2 - Successful candidates are required to join the Air Similan Discord server.
2.7 - Candidates who fail the entry exam must wait three months before reapplying.
Pilot Activity
3.1 - Pilots must complete at least two full rotations every two months.
3.2 - If a pilot cannot fly for more than two months, they must notify the Air Similan team. Failure to do so will result in account suspension.
3.3.1 - Except during special events, tours, ferry flights, or repositioning flights, pilots are required to complete full rotations, meaning both outbound and return flights. Stopover flights are an exception, where the outbound and return may differ.
3.3.2 - Pilots must depart from the airport where their last flight ended, except for Paris, where either CDG or ORY may be used. For example, after a CDG-MRS flight, the return must be MRS-CDG. After a MRS-CDG flight, the next flight can be from either CDG or ORY.
3.4.1 - Pilots have one week after their outbound flight to complete the return flight. For flights longer than six hours, this deadline is extended to two weeks.
3.4.2 - If the return flight is not completed within this timeframe without valid justification, the pilot will be automatically repositioned to their base. The aircraft will either be assigned to another pilot or teleported to the base. In the latter case, the outbound flight is deleted from the database and not counted. In all cases, pilots may incur a Miles penalty. Repeated offenses may lead to account suspension.
3.5 - Air Similan offers a wide variety of routes, listed on our network page. The Intranet also provides a tool to view available flights and suggestions based on multiple criteria. Pilots are free to choose their routes, as long as they comply with their ratings. For realism and experience diversity, we encourage pilots to vary destinations.
3.6 - Pilots must follow flight numbers and use assigned callsigns when booking flights. Each pilot receives a unique callsign, even if multiple pilots book the same flight. The assigned callsign must be used for the flight.
3.7 - Pilots have access to Air Similan Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). These airline-specific SOPs are the foundation of safe and efficient operations and apply to all flights. Strict compliance ensures safety, regulatory adherence, and service quality. Violations may result in sanctions.
3.8 - Pilots must strictly adhere to operational parameters and flight plan data defined by the airline, including, but not limited to, the departure gate/parking, arrival gate/parking, and aircraft loading (weight, passengers, cargo, fuel, etc.). Any deviation must be properly justified in the pirep. Otherwise, the airline reserves the right to reject the flight validation.
3.9 - Pilots must operate their flights in full compliance with current aviation procedures and the operational specifics of the aircraft used. Flights must be conducted safely and at real speed (Sim Rate x1). Any deviation from these requirements must be justified in the pirep, otherwise the airline may refuse the flight.
3.10 - If an Air Similan livery is available for the add-on used, pilots must operate their flights using this livery. Furthermore, if an Air Similan fleet pack is available for the add-on used, pilots are required to use the specific aircraft livery (matching the registration of the reserved aircraft) for all flights conducted with the airline.
Pirep (Pilot Report)
4.1 - Every flight operated with Air Similan must be concluded with a pirep, submitted via Air Similan's systems. Pilots have access to detailed documentation explaining the operation of the flight tracker used to submit pireps. Without a complete and validated pirep on the Air Similan Intranet, the flight cannot be accepted. It is important to note that an IVAO, VATSIM, Volanta, ProjectFLY replay, or any other tracking service cannot replace the specific Air Similan pirep.
4.2.1 - Any incident, unusual situation, or improper practice, even minor, must be mentioned in this pirep. The goal is to maintain a record of our fleet's status and monitor events. A recognized and reported error is more likely to be excused than an unreported or concealed one. The procedure for submitting a comment in a pirep is described in the documentation available to our pilots.
4.2.2 - Any pirep showing a vertical speed at landing (visible in our tracker and on the pirep page) lower than -600 ft/min must be accompanied by a comment justifying the maneuver; otherwise, the pirep will be immediately rejected.
4.3 - The safety of our passengers and crew is our top priority. Safety must always take precedence over punctuality. As Chesley Sullenberger said: 'A delay is better than a disaster.' Any violation of this rule will result in the immediate rejection of the pirep.
4.4 - A pirep must cover the entirety of the flight. Flight tracking must begin at the departure parking or boarding gate (assigned during reservation) before engine start. It must end after arrival at the parking or arrival gate (assigned during reservation), once all engines are shut down. If these conditions are not met or if the pilot does not justify the absence, the pirep may be rejected.
Points, Miles, Statuses and Ratings
5.1 - Each pilot accumulates flight hours for every flight operated with Air Similan. Over time, pilots earn Points and Miles.
5.2 - Points allow pilots to achieve different statuses within Air Similan, granting various benefits. Points automatically expire at the end of each calendar year. The detailed operation of the Air Similan Points system is explained to pilots during their admission into the airline.
5.3 - Miles function as a form of currency within Air Similan, enabling pilots to obtain new ratings or travel between airports. Miles automatically expire one year after they are earned. The detailed operation of the Air Similan Miles system is explained to pilots during their admission. Note that certain special or non-regular flights may not be eligible for Points or Miles accumulation.
5.4 - Statuses within Air Similan are achieved through the accumulation of Points. A pilot's status is displayed as a badge on their profile in the Air Similan Intranet. These statuses, which come in several levels, provide access to various features, such as earning additional Miles per flight, performing long-haul or special flights, and actively contributing to future airline decisions.
5.5 - Depending on their number of Miles and status, pilots may purchase additional ratings to operate new aircraft types (other than the one they were initially qualified for during their application).
5.6 - It is important to note that additional ratings obtained by a pilot are not permanent. A pilot may lose a type rating if they do not remain active on the relevant aircraft type(s).
Network and Offline Flights
6.1 - Flying online, whether on IVAO or VATSIM, is not mandatory for Air Similan pilots, who may choose to fly offline. However, a Miles penalty will be applied when a flight is conducted offline.
6.2 - It is mandatory for pilots to correctly indicate the network used during their flight in the airline tracker. Any incorrect indication, such as selecting 'IVAO' instead of 'VATSIM', or marking a flight as online when it was flown offline, will be detected by the team during the flight report validation. If the pilot does not justify the error, a Miles penalty will be applied, and in case of repetition, the flight may be rejected.
Additional Rights and Duties
7.1.1 - Pilots are required to join and remain active on the Air Similan Discord server, which is essential for communication within the airline. This server centralizes support and assistance, allows the organization of meetings, group flights, and exchanges between pilots.
7.1.2 - If a pilot needs to contact the Air Similan team, they must follow the contact procedure via the Discord server. Requests sent by email, private message to a team member, or any other contact method will not be considered, except for pilots unable to access the Discord server, who may in that case contact the team via contact(at)airsimilan(dot)com.
7.2.1 - Pilots must regularly check the Air Similan Discord server to stay informed of internal news relevant to pilots, such as system updates, liveries, and other important information.
7.2.2 - Pilots are required to regularly consult the Air Similan Newsroom which publishes public information about the fleet, network, operations, and other news relevant to the airline. This ensures that every pilot remains up-to-date and responsive to developments within Air Similan.
7.3 - Pilots may submit route proposals, improvement ideas, or any other suggestions to Air Similan management via a dedicated channel on our Discord server. This communication channel is designed to allow each pilot to actively contribute to the airline's development by sharing ideas and participating in the continuous improvement of Air Similan's services and operations. Proposals will be reviewed by the management team and, if deemed relevant, may be implemented for the benefit of the entire community.
7.4 - Insults, incitement to hatred, racism, homophobia, discrimination, as well as any other words or behaviors that may offend others, are strictly prohibited within Air Similan, whether in airline services or on its Discord server. Any violation of this rule will result in severe sanctions, ranging from warnings to permanent exclusion from the airline. Air Similan aims to provide a respectful, inclusive, and supportive environment for all pilots, and any behavior contrary to these principles will not be tolerated.
7.5 - This regulation must be regularly consulted by pilots. It may be modified at any time without notice, and changes take effect as soon as they are published online. Anyone present within Air Similan, or wishing to join, accepts these changes without reservation upon their online publication. It is the responsibility of each pilot to stay informed of any updates to the regulations.
